Teacher Training with Yoga Therapy Certification in Eating Disorder Recovery

Three-segment, 200 hour (RYT) training and yoga therapy certification program. 

 

Pre-requisites to entering program: Licensed mental health provider, registered dietitian, nurse (RN, LPN, NP), physician or educator with at least one year of experience in the field of eating disorder recovery.   Recovery coach (peer support coach) with at least two years of effective, personal treatment followed by one year of leadership in the eating disorder community or Registered Yoga Teacher with passion for this type of healing work.

 

Participants must complete all three segments for complete certification.  Retreat Segment alone is optional, with continuing education awarded and may be done in any order if doing full program.

Individuals who have already completed a 200 Hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training and would like Yoga Therapy Certification only will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Retreat Segment

Join your colleagues, who practice in various eating disorder treatment settings, for a week long retreat to learn and connect. Earn:

  • 40 Hours toward our 200 RYT and Yoga Therapy Certification
  • 40 continuing education units by Commission on Dietetic Registration and Yoga Alliance (Mental Health and other practitioners may submit CEU on their own)
  • 6 clock hours in body image, weight and food issues towards IAEDP Eating Disorder Specialist or the CEU renewal requirement

Immersion Segment

Conducted at our facility in Royal Oak, Michigan. Trainees receive hands on experience in our comprehensive eating disorder programs followed by continued learning and practice teaching/facilitating in their practice setting.  Time slot arranged. (95 contact hours including personal practice)

 

Implementation Segment

Conducted at our facility in Royal Oak, Michigan after enrollee has had time to implement learned techniques in their own practice setting. In this module, trainee will continue to learn, while conducting various programs at our facility. Time slot arranged. (50 contact hours including personal practice)

Program Objectives/Topics for all Segments:

  • Look inward with an honest self-assessment of your own body image issues, while addressing how your relationship with food, and your yoga mat, parallel every other relationship in your life so that you can help your students/clients understand the same concept
  • Differentiate between classifications of eating disorders, common co-occurring disorders and how they present physically, emotionally and spiritually both on and off the mat
  • Learn the scientific benefits of yoga on eating disorder recovery, along with the yoga teacher and yoga therapist's role in an eating disorder treatment facility or community setting.
  • Become aware of the negative messages that you may be giving your students/clients by focusing solely on the poses; learn how to reduce competition/perfectionism and implement purposeful word choices, while focusing on the breath--using challenging poses as metaphors
  • Learn and practice mindful eating through food experiential
  • Implement the chakras, eight fold path and yoga philosophy in eating disorder recovery
  • Learn how listen and understand non-verbal communication by your student/client, with an eating disorder, through their yoga practice
  • Develop your own yoga program/class in body acceptance for students/clients using messages, voice tone, lighting, temperature, themes and sequencing of yoga flow;
  • Learn the art of giving and receiving feedback along with adjustments that make connections vs. corrections
  • Market your program and services to other healthcare professionals and the consumer

Integration and Implementation Segments include the following in addition to above:

  • Yoga teaching techniques and personal practice including meditation
  • Teaching methodology as applied to eating disorder recovery in our day and intensive outpatient programs, weekly group support and outpatient therapy
  • Anatomy & Physiology of the chakras and their application to eating disorder recovery along with body image experiential
  • Yoga Philosophy including the eight limbs of yoga and how they apply to addiction work along with mindful and conscious eating
  • Practicum including observing and leading classes and groups along with giving and receiving feedback
  • Case study and special project
  • Community activities/meetings in eating disorder recovery

You will receive a study guide for each of the materials so that you can begin part of this training immediately with non-contact hours going into program.  Recommended order of reading is below. Check www.amazon.com for best prices

Program Materials:

Comprehensive syllabus is included in the cost of program, giving you a turn-key program that you can implement in your practice setting. Required reading/viewing products, listed above, are purchased on your own. In addition to the required reading/viewing materials listed on our website, you will also need your own seating/meditation cushion, mat, writing journal, and notepads. We practice yoga twice per day in all segments.

License Agreement:

Following completion of all three segments of this program and payment of entire fee, practitioners will become a RECONNECT WITH FOOD® yoga practitioner. All materials (print and internet) will contain a “license legend” which states: “RECONNECT WITH FOOD® is a registered trademark and is used under license.”
